About

More Than Just a Meal

For over 70 years, Meals on Wheels has proudly delivered more than just a meal to Australians across the country. Here in Brisbane South, many of our local services have been supporting their communities for more than 50 years. A true testament to the care, connection, and commitment behind every delivery.

We deliver more than just a meal in so many ways:

Wellbeing and Care

Each delivery is not only a meal, but also a wellbeing check. Our friendly volunteers deliver meals direct to our clients’ doors, offering a familiar face and a quick chat that can make a world of difference.

Our volunteers are trained to notice any changes in a client’s condition that may need attention. In the event of an emergency, such as a fall, they will promptly call an ambulance. If a concern is raised, our staff will contact the client’s next of kin and if none is listed, we may reach out to an advocacy service to ensure support is provided.

Nutrition and Nourishment

Good food means good health. Meals on Wheels provides nutritious, balanced meals designed to support healthy ageing and overall wellbeing.

Each menu item is carefully prepared with the right balance of protein, vegetables, and carbohydrates, while keeping salt to a minimum. Our focus is on nourishment and quality, helping our clients stay strong, healthy, and independent.

For more than seven decades, Meals on Wheels has been trusted to deliver meals made with care and we continue to build on that proud history to serve our communities today and into the future.

Generations of Care

For generations, Meals on Wheels has been part of the fabric of local communities across Brisbane South and beyond. There’s a good chance that someone in your family, neighbourhood, or street has received our meals and care.

We have a long and proud history of supporting people to live independently at home, helping to build diverse, connected, and caring communities.

Many of our wonderful volunteers later become clients themselves, after decades of giving back. Likewise, many of our current clients once watched their parents receive Meals on Wheels and now continue that same tradition of support and nourishment.

We’re incredibly proud of this rich, intergenerational history, built on kindness, community, and care.

Supporting Clients Living with Dementia

Many of our clients live with early dementia, and we’re here to help them stay in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes for as long as possible.

Each meal delivery is more than a nutritious dish — it’s also a moment of connection and reassurance. Our volunteers bring peace of mind to families, knowing that their loved ones are being checked on and cared for, even when they can’t be there themselves.

Our History

On 15 October 2021, Meals on Wheels Brisbane South was officially formed through the amalgamation of 11 local services across the Brisbane South Aged Care Region.

Together, we’ve become one of the largest Meals on Wheels services in Australia, proudly delivering 247,548 meals in the 2026 financial year alone.

The amalgamation began in 2020, when several independent Meals on Wheels services from Brisbane’s southside came together to explore how they could work more efficiently. The goal was to strengthen our governance, compliance, and reporting, while ensuring strong community representation and continuity of care.

Our model honours the heart of Meals on Wheels; local services run by local people, for local communities. While we have grown in size, our focus remains the same: delivering nutritious, nourishing meals and providing support for independent living at home across the communities we serve.
